The Archives Will Reopen in July!

YCARC Coordinator Heather Lanctot reports in The Archives Ledger:

"The Yolo County Archives facility renovation is in the home stretch, and we are looking forward to opening back up to the public for appointments starting the week of July 15th. The finishing touches are being made, furniture is being delivered and installed, and the collection is tentatively scheduled to start returning to the facility the second week of June. Moving the collection back in will be quite the endeavor. The shelving has been completely reconfigured and the materials will be placed in new locations. Staff has spent a number of months mapping the collection onto the new shelving and developing a process for the collection move, including labeling all of the shelves with temporary and permanent labels. Our staff will be assisting the movers to make sure that the collection is shelved in the correct places and will be creating a brand-new inventory. There will be an official celebration for the renaming of the building as the Shipley Walters Facility for Yolo County Archives and Library Services and the opening of the newly renovated facility in the fall. We are excited to show the community our new space and the improved archival storage."

Past Update: Reopening Delayed

Reopening Delayed

YCARC Coordinator Heather Lanctot reports:

"Since October 2018, the Yolo County Archives and Records Center has been closed while our facility is being renovated. We planned to reopen to the public on May 1, 2019; however, the project is running behind schedule and we now anticipate that the Archives and Records Center will reopen on July 15, 2019. The Archives staff want to thank you for your continued understanding and support during the project!

"As our renovation project gets closer to completion, we are looking forward to our improved work and research areas for staff and patrons. Additionally, the preservation of our collection will be much improved by reducing the overcrowding of materials and increasing the environmental controls. We are excited to share our new space with the public when everything is completed!"

"The Yolo County Archives and Records Center will be undergoing a two million dollar renovation in the Spring/Summer of 2018 to increase storage capacity and improve the control over the temperature and humidity of the facility.
